This photo tells a great story of a drought. You can practically feel the heat rising from the dry, parched earth. The detail is wonderful, from the dark depth of the crevasses to the fine lines on top of the soil. It makes a very nice close up shot. I think, however, I might have liked a different angle for more impact--perhaps an angle close to the ground as is, but then reaching farther into the horizon to encompass a broader area---to show just how desolate this drought really is. Technically, this is really nice--your darks and lights have good contrast. I like the slight glare of the white because it enhances how bright and hot the sun really is. All in all, I really like this, very nice work!
Okay... but how well will a textured shot do for photo journalism? Photo journalism on drought brings other images to mind. Things with tension in them, and a bit more human interest. Dried up ground only goes so far.
Good title and dramatization of the situation. Very simple. Maybe to simple. Would like to see more of the area looking like that, too show how wide spread the draught is. But what you have is technically good photo wise. Just need a little more, in my thughts. PTL5
This is one of my favourite pictures this week. I can almost feel how parched the earth is. If I saw this in the newspaper, I'd definitely want to know the story. I like the symmetry. 8
the only tough part is that it's hard to get a feel for how many square feet of ground we're looking at here. this'd be a great place for a macro shot i bet, be sure and get some.
The light is very bright, which distracts somewhat. This is a great topic for the challenge, though. I wonder if a shot that shows more dried out ground and some of the horizon might have more impact. Without the title (and, granted, almost every photojournalist-type photo would have a title or caption), this could be a close-up of skin cells or something. There's not much visual indication that this is dried-out ground. muckpond
Very good shot, looks like it would appear in Natural Geographic almost, reminds me of a photographer who takes lots of aerial views of the earth and then makes these famous exhibitions in major cities, don't remember his name but this pcture reminds me of his style... Is it a photojournalism picture? I don't know anymore. I think there's a grey area and when a picture's in a grey area it shouldn't influence the score, so that will be my philosophy.. Good work!
When I look at this photo, the first thing that hits me is a similar photo of a guy crouched on the soil like the one in the photo with something in their hands and a nice caption similar to your title. The photo is well executed and meets the challenge but that first thing I wrote would be my suggestion for improvement.
