Priceless. (I think an alternative title might be your comment: "A wind storm knocked stuff over.")

the only thing i find wrong with this picture is the distraction of the written words on the garbage can behing him, and the picture is just too busy. there really is very little flow. i think this photograph could have used a very different angle and a little bit of cropping/zooming.

CRITIQUE CLUB!

Overall, this is an excellent photo for the Photojournalism challenge. The viewer can completely understand what's going on in the scene, and the lineman turned upside-down is a completely unexpected, and I think delicious, twist to the typical post-tornado photograph. It's almost like he got twisted around in the wind himself. :)

Colors are fairly accurate, and the orange jumpsuit makes the lineman jump out even more than usual -- a great contrast that again turns the focal point toward the lineman and not the power lines.

The framing of the shot it probably the biggest detraction, unfortunately. Understandably, this was a "go for the moment" -type challenge, but the dumpsters in the background are very distracting. You also mention that there was yellow tape all around -- some of that in the photo, even if blurry, might have lended a more "newspaper"-y feel to the image.

Focus on the power lines and lineman is decent. It looks like the top of the broken pole is the most in focus, unfortunately. The building in the background is blurry enough that it shows some depth of field, but not blurred enough to make it pop the focal points out from the background.

I greatly enjoyed this photo -- it captured a rather unique moment in time and was perfect for this challenge.

Naw I wish I could have gotten a little bit closer. Unfortunately for me there was yellow tape everywhere as there were several trees that had fallen over on top of cars and houses. While i agree another angle may have eliminated some of the background distractions, it just wasn't possible at the time. I have a few other shots I was considering.. I'll post them later today.

Great subject for the challenge! Did you try any other angles?

Wow, that's some destruction.
I'm finding the skips in the background a bit distrcting, but that's the only negative point.

Good capture of the moment. Composition works too.

Woah! Be careful!

Was that a storm or did some citizen run into the pole with their SUV.

Is the guy doing a somersault? LOL. This is an excellent photo for the challenge. The focus and lighting is great, but the dumpsters in the background detract. I know you have to go for the moment, but it's unfortunate that they are there. muckpond

Great photo. Looks like a bad storm. Anyone hurt. Guess I'll read the story to see how bad it was. Nice touch the electrical man - don't know what he's doing but he adds a touch to the photo. Nice color, Good composition with nice execution. Great job. I'll read the story. Good pic. PTL7

Nice job capturing a "real" news event! This could have indeed landed in a local newspaper.

Focus is a bit off. Really good otherwise.

Very journalistic and good color. I wish the worker was standing upright though. DPz

Not pretty enough....lol....kidding! This is about as newsworthy as you can get! This is one of those pictures that one can plainly see the problem, and the title supports it. The worker is in a strange pose...can't really tell what he's doing all bent over. Would rather have seen him looking at the broken lines I think.
Overall meets the challenge well, and tells a story. Congratulations. Best of luck in the challenge. Please remember to keep an open mind when voting. Grayce aka Gracious
