Continuing my quest to try to ribbon with a seagull shot. I don't think this one will do it, but I like it anyway!

[Apr. 2nd, 2010 03:05:57 PM]

This was a hard capture. It's difficult to get both the goldfish and the seagull in focus. You need a larger depth of field, but you take a chance of not having a shutter speed fast enough because of that.

This was another option, but it seemed more about the bird. If the picture could be viewed at 1400 or so pixels, then it might have worked. But it seemed too small at 800 to have enough orange.

One other option that I really, really liked, but I didn't think it would be as universal:

[Apr. 4th, 2010 11:25:18 AM]

(I forgot to mention -- my normal seagull feeder wasn't available, so I had to throw the goldfish up myself and try and shoot! Definitely added to the degree of difficulty!

Another brilliant shot Wendy. Your bird shots are so amazing. Are you related to Dr. Doolittle or something?

I'm very impressed - shot with the 10-22? This guy had to be right in front of you! Very impressed! Oh, and is this full color or did you desat all but the goldfish?

Wow, not a bad finish at all for such an off-the-wall take on the challenge, and with so little orange in it :-)

I really love this image, it is very clever.
I do wish that the goldfish were more in the picture, and not so far to the edges. But I think this must have been an exceedingly difficult image to capture, so I do not mind.

Very cool image. I like the pose you caught the gull in and the way he is eying those little "fish" Did you toss those into the air for him to catch (gold fish cookies?) or did you add the "fish" in afterwards?

Great capture. Love this photo. Smart use of the two tone technique, without that the photo would've been all about the seagull.
