What a fun story.. it's hard not to get carried away..

Dupe layer.. invert.. overlay.. gausian blur.. reduce transparancy.

Dupe first layer again.. variations.. more yellow and darker.. reduce transparancy

levels
curves

dupe and merge all layers.. gausian blur.. layer mask.. black out portions which should be in clear focus..

dupe blur layer.. multiply.. draw a box with the selection tool about half an inch into the image on all sides.. Select.. feather (160).. delete the selection.. (this creates the darkened edges)

I overlayed a couple diffrent textures and played with their opacity.. there are a few hidden little squares of galex dust hidden throughout the image..
