These are the movable stacks in the Swem library at William and Mary. Here's another shot .

In this shot you can see that there is space between the stacks half way down. The stacks are packed close together, but if you turn the crank you can move a stack farther apart from its neighbor, so you can access the books.

Looks like a scene from the Matrix movies! I remember movable stacks like these from when I lived in vancouver, they were very ominous. I gave you a 7 in voting. Good shot!

I am so relieved to have this explained. I found it quite chilling - I was thinking locker room for the armygeddon/geddonarmy, detention cubicles; and all the time it was just the heavy carapactory of recorded utterance.

Sweet shot! Nice high-key areas, though the top looks a bit artificial (like a gradient). I love the simplicity of it.
