This is actually a scene from a Penguin Plunge, in which people raise money for the Special Olympics by plunging into freezing cold water. This man is a local elementary school principal who took the leap with several of his students.

I cropped the photo, adjusted the levels slightly, added a linear contrast (RGB) curve, pushed the brightness to +102 and added a cooling filter (82) at 24% density.

I made it very bright in the background which eliminated the ice chunks. There was a white t-shirt lying on the ice which bothered me so I just brightened everything to hide it.

Greetings from the Critique Club

I do not know I can add too much of value to this critique. I think your image is interesting and blown out highlights in the sky add a certain something to it. However, I do believe that your score suffered due to the large number of people who did not feel it truly depicted cold. As noted by the comments of others, many felt it rather portrayed wet. I would contend that typically being wet is kind of cold, but many are very literal in the interpretation of the challenge topic.

I feel your composition is perhaps a little tight, I would prefer to see a bit more space to the left of the guy (as I am looking at the image). To me the image looks like it's been cropped in PS rather than framed in the camera (not saying there is anything wrong with that, I just feel in this case it is a bit too tight).

I liked the concept of this image a lot, and am sorry it didn't score higher.

Crossing the "frozen" lake a little prematurely, aren't we? ;)

Nice setup but it says 'wet' rather than 'cold' to me..

This is very interesting and unique as a photo. I think I can see some ice in the water in the background but I am not too sure. Bringing that out would help to convey the feeling of being cold. Right now I think the message conveyed is more Wet than Cold. I know there is some great thought put into this. I wish I knew what the number in his hand was about...

Very creative take on the challenge! I like the expression of good-humored annoyance on the model's face. What's that white thing in his left hand?

I'm guessing this isn't a very cold place, but the photo, his action the white out background make me believe that it is very cold....
Great photo.

I hope you gave your model a huge meal, a good hot drink, some brandy and a hug? Made me shiver just to look at it! Great shot! :)

Conveys wet more than cold to me. Interesting image, though.
