Well, this went as expected! I wanted to create a still life that would stand out. The concept for the image began with an attempt at creating a visual interpretation of Castaneda's Journey to Ixtlan. To that end I wanted an image with plenty of texture and blur, so I used a veil to create an overlay effect as well as a film preset in Nik Silver Effex for additional grain and contrast. The duotone was created with Nik Silver Effex.

Since I missed my original mark with regards to Castaneda, I set out to create a image that would impart a sense of cactus. Works for me, so I am very happy with this image.

Visit our blog for my brother's written interpretation.

Thanks Posthumous for the Red!

If I was voting on this, I'd give it a 10. Prickly pears need love too :)

*sigh* This one is... well... not really exciting to me. I'd like to see something in focus... and ... well... Sorry, Ben. *sigh* (not voting)

Ok. Going for the "artsy" look I guess. Given the context of the challenge this photo is probably getting crushed score-wise.

Composition is nice and it is unique. Hard to judge after seeing so many bright ones but I like it, 7

3 and at least i will tell you why
1) there isnt much of a focus on anywhere in the image
2) its appears really grainy (did you mean that)?
3) there is a lack of something to hold my interest
4) and B&W really doent work in this case

sorry if i seem harsh but its what i see
