Hope it doesn't get slaughtered.

Simply put, for this shot... yes. Why would I have desaturated the rest of the flower and surroundings if that wasn't my goal?

That's what I was going for. I wanted to put special emphasis on the stamens, which this crop achieves, IMHO. Why shoot a flower with an everyday plain centered or rule of thirds type of shot?

Nice, what kind of flower is that? Anyway, there's a bit of noise on your photo.

contrast within the iris is great, yellow is good. the contrast beteen iriis and background could be improved

It must have taken you forever to get this right. It has a nice composition and I can see details thru most of the light petals but they do seem a little overexposed. Maybe it's bcause they are naturally so light.

Crop is waaaaay too tight with most of the flower! cut off. The white center is overpowering. You normally wouldn't have had the original framed this way. Darkening the picture would have added more contrast to the white pedals, would have brought out the pedal textures, and added allot more to the picture. Great job and workmanship getting the small yellow parts separated from the main background! Rated 6

A startling shot, unconventional use of desaturization, I really like it, though I think it would be a mid-level photo in full color or B&W, the halfway point fits this shot perfectly.

Not bad, slightly more contrast would've helped though, as it is it lacks depth.
