Greetings from the Critique Club!

What are the odds that a professional horsewoman would draw this one to critique? Very interesting stance in the foreground horse, that rested hind leg indicates that he is at ease. At a guess I would say the b/g horse is a possible successor to the foreground horse, who to my eye looks quite a bit older. B/g horse looks to be younger and in much better weight.

Now onto the shot. Very dramatic pose, setting is amazing, and the camera settings are what I would expect to see in this situation. Lords-of-the-Rings quality to the shot. Would love to know if these are feral or domesticated horses.

Overall, how can I find flaws in a shot that I would have given at least an 8 had I voted? Even knowing it's been pp'd, I can't see it.

Gorgeous shot. Great work!

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan

This is a very pretty image. The placement of the horse in the BG could have been more flattering.

Almost looks like they are from a fantasy movie or advanced video game.
Very crafty composition with great lights.

What a great capture... I can tell that you worked the relative exposure of the sky and near side of the nearer animal, but it is very well done. I very much like the end result.

8 - Special capture - these Icelandic(?) wild horses have such a gentle face. I realize the light is falling in other areas, but wonder about some 'brightening' in pp on the face of the main partner, just subtle, but so his/her face can be equally visible/dominant in this excellent image. I do like the detail in the fur/hair - and the stance. edit: to correct what is (and should have been on viewing/commenting!) quite obvious

Love these guys. Fantastic colors and textures. The guy in the back is a little close compositionally but otherwise flawless. 8

I like the composition, but the backlighting seems to leave the front horse in shadow. 7

Very nice! Love these snow ponies. Great framing on the composition of elements. Love how the one pony is framed by the body of the pony standing majestically in front. A subtle little visual stating that this is -his- mate or perhaps this is his son in which it is a family connection. Great colors and and lighting!

I like the angle here, it's different from all the usual head on shots and the sky as a background makes a nice difference. The inclusion of a little snowy ground in the foreground gives some context and finishes the scene well.
