Good day! You're the recipient of a "critique club" critique! So feel free to take this with a grain of salt :D
First Impression: I wonder how many of your lower votes were from people who just don't like fish-eye shots. There does seem to be strong reactions to them. Personally, I don't care much for fish-eyes, however, I find this one intriguing. The face seemed difficult to find, at first.
Composition: I like the composition. Two small things, however: the image seems a tad tilted to the right. Have you tried rotating it slightly to the left? (small point, but might be a little better.) Second, I find the tables in the lower left hand corner draw my eye. I don't think there's much you could do about it, but I'd be curious if you stepped back a bit and didn't cut through them whether it would lessen their importance. Again, very small point, but you chose a good POV!
Subject: Not sure about the quality of the face. It was a little hard to see, and pretty small in the picture (the one I found, that is). I think this hurt you with some people. Once found, however, it is interesting. The curving portion seems like arms wrapping around, and thus it was a very good choice of title!
Technical: The technicals look good to me. The only change that I'd consider is perhaps bringing out the blues in the sky. Otherwise, I think it's quite nice.
Final thoughts: Nice idea, interesting shot. I think you might have been hit by the speed voters that didn't want to take time to find the face. |
