Shot This Bug in my garden. Looks scary? but i love them coz they are the only ones my camera can capture beautifully with reasonable details..
Had to take many shots as this bug kept coming towards my camera and thus getting out of focus. With its mandibles open and moving it looked quiet ferocious, but i gues that was his style to say CHEESE for the shoot :-)

He has already trodden down one grass blade, has his other foot on another ready to trample it too. Nothing is going to get in this guy's way, and he's coming straight for me! I think this all adds up to a great capture of Mr. Scary.

Greetings from the Critique Club.

First impressions are that this is a great macro shot with a very interesting subject.

Technically this is very good but there are a couple of major issues. Frist that blade of grass in front of him. I'd have looked to clone that out but it would have been tough to reconstruct his face. Second, in order to expose his face properly it has blown out the background and overall the lighting looks harsh. Other than that this is good.

Artistically there is not much to say. The centred composition works well for dramatic effect.

In summary it's a good shot but the technical elements held it back a little. Good work for challenge #3 though.

Feel free to PM me if you have any queries.
Gerry

Your photo appears to be a bit overexposed, its not completely sharp in focus on the face, and the blade of grass across the front is a bit distracting. Close up insect shots are very common on DPC these days and those entered need to have WOW to score well.

While I would not vote this a 1, I don't think it is one of the better images in the challenge and would likely have voted it a 3 or 4 for the reasons stated above.

The grass-blade, and overexposure was intentional.
but lack of focus is a flaw really.
Thanks

Agreed..
Thanks penny :-)

Your 5 ones were at least balanced by five tens!
I agree that the best way to improve is to study your own work but also to study others.

The other thing to keep in mind is that score isn't everything. People like different things and people vote in different manners. Concentrate on making what you do the best you can make it first.

That is a freaky looking bug, very well captured and one of the few that I gave a 10

Ferocious insect. Outstanding macro showing interesting detail. Possibly the style of artistChan.
