Challenge: Selective Desaturation (Advanced Editing II)

This is Frankie, he looks alot meaner than he really is. I think he was just a bit peeved at me waking him up from his nap by shoving my camera in his face. :)

Created a layer for each eye and up'ed the yellow and green saturation as well as the contrast of each. Lowered the saturation of all the other colors on the rest of the cat leaving a little yellow in the fur. Added a duplicate layer and color burned it, also burned around the edges of the photo as well as parts of the fur. Used the clone tool to get rid of a long hair going across the left eye. Resized and I think that's it.

He's saying 'Don't Mess With Me'. Good colour and contrast. Maybe a little too shallow on the DOF.

I just wanted to say thanks to those who took the time to comment and vote on my entry. After reading some of your comments I thought I'd post my first idea for this challenge, tighter crop and complete desaturation of color (except the eyes). It just seemed a little stark and not quite as crisp as my actual entry. Thanks again everyone!

Powerful image. One eye looks lazy though. I like that the color isn't over saturated like some of the others in this challenge (including my own).

This is a wonderful high contrast picture. I would have magnified this picture and finished the greyscaling around the ears, nose, and sides - I think that would have made the eyes stand out even more. However, with those areas still having slight hues in them - it adds some softness, it adds to the realiism of the shot. Most viewers will assume the cat looks like this normally! Good picture.

NICE!

Nice sharp shot of the cat! Love the detail in the fur. It's hard to get that close with a cat shot (especially if you let the flash fire the first time.... I can't get near my cat with a camera now...) Don't think the desat really adds to the shot though...

Wow, what a great cat picture!! The eye color is perfect and not too strong. Not sure if I would have cropped the ears that much, but it's hard to tell.

Definitely my favorite of the cat photos so far. Very beautiful. I like the vignetting too. 7.

This is my favourite of all the cat shots..filling the frame just seems to have given it that little bit extra for me.

a tighter crop on this, maybe just full frame on the face, with the green eyes would be very dramatic
