The trouble with bubbles is that they keep bursting, usually just when your getting your focussing right ;-)
I used two Kenko extension tubes to get closer to the bubbles. Started off with four small bubbles for this particular image. Just the very second I got the focus right (crouched over them like Quasimodo, camera handheld) the fourth bubble burst, so I though “oh well, three bubbles are also fine”. ;-)
Only when I zoomed in on the camera display did I notice that the minute ring left by the burst bubble was actually a trail of amazingly tiny bubbles. Although I’d done loads of shots before this one and loads after it, I kept coming back to this because of the bubble trail (and thankfully the focus was also spot on).
Thanks so much for a great week, I was at 7.5 for a few days, then the score settled in at around 7.0/6.9. Also thanks for the comments and votes. Also thanks, thanks, thanks for the ribbon ;-))

Irene, can you share your secret about lightening a bubble without the reflection of the light?
Keep working on the bubbles trails, I want to see what you can do with this. ;)

Hi Louis, I have no problems with comments from the "other side". There are many photos here that I find excellently done but which don't engage me in any way either... so I know where you're coming from. This is a big site, there's room for us all, thank goodness.
Thanks for taking the time to give me your views on the image. In one point you're wrong though... they're bubbles but they're not in water ;-D
All the best,
Irene

this is an extraordinary photograph irene .. you are indeed the master ...
you once said you'd like to have a gtg in the grass near my home .. well i was going to suggest a gtg around your cooker .. well that was when i read that you take a lot of your bubble shots on your ceramic stove top ..
think it would take me many many hours, days, weeks, months .. to do something as amazing as this even if you were coaching me ..
congrats on such a well deserved ribbon ..

Yes, did this on my stove top too. A gtg around my cooker sounds great - just don't expect me to cook (my husband doesn't ;-)) He's thin, but healthy ;-D

lol LOL .. you're my kinda girl .. !!.;)

The first image that came up in my voting list--good luck...I have a hard time believing that you won't finish highly. The orange accent is a nice plus, as is the small trail of bubbles. (not voting)

The clarity on this is breathtaking. This will undoubtedly finish on the front page. Love the colors too. And the composition is spot (bubble) on... Not voting.

Great clarity but this shot increases its appeal by the smaller bubbles you have included in the frame. Nice shot, should do well.
