i've not voted in this challenge, but this is a shot that would taken a 9 or ten from me...
great photograph, as someone write: a story in a shot. |

This got a 9 from me, Jeb. It's just such a 'story' shot. Well done! |

NICE finish, Jeb! This pulled a 9 from me. I am particularly fond of the reflected, lit window above the man, which implies well-fed watchers of this bleak scene. |

Nice composition, good exposure, but too much sharpness or Topaz or something... |

This is a superb political commentary on many levels and quite sad because it is now so commonplace and true. The black and white tones fit this perfectly because they are opposite absolutes. This is obviously a view of somewhere which shares great wealth as evidenced by the central background building and reflections behind the shelter, but the tired soul seeking respite is not a part of that, nor do they see or celebrate the decoration meant to enliven the holidays around the lamp, which in the greater scheme now feels awkward and out of place. The phantom watchers in the background enhance this but the main subject is unaware, isolated, alone. We are our Brother's Keeper and what we do about such things defines us in a greater sense. A good eye and a compassionate heart to recognise and capture this. |

Evocative. I like the title, fits well, but would have left off the ... And maybe you could have come in closer for more detail of subject and immediate surroundings without losing the statement. |

OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - sometimes I find myself commenting on something that spans mainstream and niche appeal - this is one of those images. I'll be picking one of these images for the Mu (most underrated) award:
Positives: A very poignant title and story here - very well executed too. I like the way you have manipulated the luminosity levels to keep the focus on the subject without losing the wider environmental and architectural context. The monochrome treatment works very well.
Critical stuff: Nothing really.
Overall: A very effective, thought provoking image. |

Even without the title, this pic has a strong social statement of desolation juxtaposed with the holiday decoration on the street lamp and perception of what the holidays are all about. Nice catch. |
