Claw, arolium (the pad), and tarsus (foot) of a grasshopper.

The style of the title comes from Nixter. Fits the photograph perfectly, in that the anatomical subject resembles the letter Y. It represents one of the fundamental questions of science, why? No reason to ponder any topic if without a why or what! It also reflects the aspect of art that I enjoy greatly...I often ask myself why do I enjoy this? Why is the artist showing me this scene? Why is it important to the photog, etc?

Questions are the keystones of life, don't be afraid to ask them! I'll never forget my 5 year old came home from class last weak beaming, proud of herself for asking three questions!

Post: Thanks for the yellow Don!

This is a mature grasshopper. The other foreleg is blurred in the foreground. The stalk of the plant is very thin. Taken at 1:1.

Congrats on your posthumous yellow!!! Glad to see I was not the only one who thought it was a nail in a tree :-) This is my kind of shot - love to try and figure out what it is.

Interesting subject and decent use of values, but to me, it isn't clear enough what your subject is supposed to be. I'd also like a little more contrast.

I'm afraid I have no idea what I am looking at. Appears sort of like a nail in a tree limb, but I am really not sure. Kinda neat looking though.

I guess I am so utterly dense that I don't understand this at all, I'm not even sure what it is...your field of focus is so very, very narrow

I can't quite relate the title.

I'm unsure what this photo is actually of, or indeed what it is aiming to meet within a 'science' challenge.

Well this sure kept me staring, trying to figure it out. I know there are nails and screws involved, but what's that blob on the left???? No vote.
