I never scored or commented on this image at the point of submission (my long comment series seems to take so much of my time); I wish I had taken time to score and comment on this though - this is a very fine image; not at all a match for its 5.3379 score. 301st is just plain wrong; but then what do I know - the 10s I gave in the 2009-09 FS came 43rd, 102nd, 103rd, 138th, 149th, 151st and 214th.

There's a line from Charles Trenets La Mer

Le Mer...Ses blancs moutons Avec les anges si purs

The Sea
With the summer skies confound
It's white sheep with angels so pure...

Though your image might be of a river or a stream...the line fits.

eta:I think his song might suggest high contrast and slightly elevated color, saturation levels with a little D&B and delicate vignetting.

This is infinitely better than my FS entry in every conceivable way but mine had a lollipop so it scored 6.45.

Could this have suffered from "poor voter monitor calibration syndrome"? I'm looking at it on a very crappy monitor at work and it is much darker than what I saw at home. To many voters, too dark = oops you made a mistake. And they go no further.

One of my top picks before I got distracted from the voting process.

The photo really is wonderful. Mesmerizing motion and contrasting elements... I see Neptune, morphing into an angry sea-bird, about to devour the graffiti-like reflection.

You, especially, could pen a treatise debating the wisdom of entering photographic art into a contest designed to judge stock photography. This photo probably belongs in an art gallery. I don't understand why you, even briefly, considered the possibility it would be received/scored well at DPC.

Your picture is beautiful, you've seen something beyond the obvious and captured it for ever. :)

I think it's a fine image. If I were to venture to guess why it didn't do very well or register with voters I might say it lacks musicality. The image strikes me more like a complex chord which is fine in itself but doesn't have enough elements to make the average viewer sway to it's rhythm. I can get lost in it but for people breezing through, at a few seconds...you know they won't take the time to feel or explore the energy.

Not going to be much help for you here I'm afraid, as I was one of your 7s. I do in fact agree with you it is a wonderful image and I can only just imagine what it looks like printed. Normally I go back over my votes and tweak scores, but this week I didn't get chance. I feel pretty sure this is one that would have had a bump up. I can totally understand why you are not happy with the outcome. I assume it didn't score how you would have liked due to the abstract nature, but for me that's what makes it. As I have been discussing with a couple of other members this week, it is increasingly difficult to predict what will work in a Free Study, which makes choosing even harder than it has been in the past. There are at least 24 of us who liked it though that maybe small consolation.

Heck - I thought this was one of mine! Just the sort of thing I love to take :) It's abstract yet clear as to what it is - I love it!
