A detail cropped out of a shot taken through a polycentral kaleidoscope.
This type of kaleidoscope gets its images from whatever it is pointed at - not from the bits and pieces that conventional kaleidoscopes have within them. I have to use my camera with the smallest lens so that it can get right up to the eye piece, and it needs to be on macro setting. The patterns formed are influenced a lot by the distance between the end of the kaleidoscope and whatever it's pointed at. Sometimes I almost bury the end into stuff and other times it might be aimed at something more distant. This example is close up.
