Challenge: In The Style Of: Heida (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D
Lens: Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS
Date: Sep 5, 2009
Galleries: Portraiture, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Sep 5, 2009

In my review of Hedia's portraits I came up with these commonalities:

1) Subject cropped to the extreme edge
2) Backgrounds are often only texture such as clouds
3) Dark palette
4) Blue cast (actually more a product of her landscapes)
5) Fill flash

Heida's pictures usually don't have the subject dominate so much canvas space, but I was limited. Laine is already sitting on a 3-foot step ladder on the patio table in an attempt at removing trees, shrubs, and houses from the BG. I was very limited on the amount of "cloud landscape" I had to work with. If I could do it over, I'd zoom way back and have her face take up much less space.

Well, I'm glad this photo of your daughter did not claim the #13th place amoung your 4th places! ;-) Oh Jason, her expression is just priceless! Congrats on the HM and your Top 5 placement.

I think this is an outstanding tribute to her work -- and what a heartstopping photo of that beautiful little girl! I think for the long haul when the challenge is forgotten -- this crop of her face will be so much more meaningful than it would have the other way. It is breathtaking!

Good score there Doc. I predicted this to end on top three, but you had some very stiff competition. Nonetheless this is an excellent shot. Grats on the HM

This is one I had pegged to be scoring well above mid 7s. I'm actually sorry to see it didn't. I think you nailed the lighting style, and the wind catching her hair is just beautiful. Congrats on 5th.

An amazing capture - not sure if this is entirely Heida-esque, but it should do well nevertheless. A very intense stare and beautiful movement in the hair.

A wonderful photo, and I really feel this captures the essence of Heida's style. Your choice of color, Model and the wind swept hair really bring everything together. Awesome job...

One of the nicer shots I've seen so far, great tones and love the serious look amidst all the flying hair!

Love the hair. Love the tones. Her expression seems a bit forced, detracting from those positive things.
