Spent yesterday at an IT conference. Made for a nice day out of the office, a free lunch and I did a walkaround in downtown Dallas afterwards, while I waited out rush hour. The vendor swag was not as good as last year, however.

I also took the opportunity to see what I could get out of my Canon A530 in extremely dim lighting. I did find it originally overexposed the scene, as it was metering off of the dark conference hall. Setting it to spot metering, using the round display screen to meter from did the trick. Used an ISO of 200, stabilized the camera on the table, and used the 2 second self timer to reduce photographer induced shake. I did use a bit of Topaz adjust to pull out some details from the darkness, but I didn't apply any noise reduction.

For a snapshot in a very dark room with a $30 used camera, I think it did pretty darn good.

Sweet. The image on the L is about the right size to be sitting at the table, gives it a nice surreal touch. It only goes to show the most expensive bit of equipment you have is right between your ears, heheh.

Yes, it's a display screen that shows the speaker. Hard to tell from the dark image. It does look a bit like he might be at the table, but the scale is slightly off, so it just looks weird.

Yep. Looks very good for a low-light shot and the conditions.

Ok - now on to the funny part. What's up with the guy on the left? He looks like the guy on stage (or his twin). I'm guessing that maybe there's another display working up front on the left and this is a projected image of the speaker? Based on the size of the "guy", it fits as if he was standing at the table there. Very cool! :-)

Read your notes, not bad at all. Looks like the $30 camera was worth every buck.
