 Cut rose, placed in front of black velvet. Had difficulty getting Canon S230 to focus on the correct portion of the flower.
No color adjustments were performed. Cropped, Unsharp mask.

Good workmanlike image. Well focused. The composition seems a little top heavy to me.

The color is great, the lighting is great. The Analogous colors of green with a touch of yellow contrast well with the complimentary red. The black background really sets it off. I also like the way the bud .. um pedal/outer thingies (I'm not a botanist) open toward the camera. The DOF is great-- I can see detail from the closest to furthest parts of the object. Meets the challenge: Hmmm. While everything in nature is in a state of change, I don't see "a sense of waiting" when looking at the photo.

This only conveys the sense of "waiting" if you prefer open blossoms. If you prefer buds, the concept is not there.

A common subject, try to get more creative when doing simple flower shots, maybe including more background (other flowers waiting, or another that has already bloomed? Or even just the room beyond).

The black backround makes the green and red colors really pop. Classic centered composition - but may work better a bit more diagonal.
