HI from the Critique Club

You asked for your shot in this challenge to have a comment from one of the members in the Critique Club.

This sounds yummy!!! There are a couple of things that need to be addressed though. You have this wonderful plate, which is not square ( I have red square plates!) which is just perfect for this shot. They are long and lean and show off yoru spag and salmon very well.

That being said, your leading line which starts with your plate, then pasta then salmon makes my eye travel all the way to the top left corner and falls off the side of the photo. In other words, there needs to be a full stop somewhere in your shot. Either have the corner of the plate as a full stop or full frame with the salmon as your end piece.

Now the pasta is either whole wheat or your whites are off. If it is whole wheat, there is not a lot you can do about that, but you can play around with your white balance, or selective colours whites, then they would have popped a little more.

Your salmon is secondary in this shot, but that also would have been nice to see it in focus, A-Dep on your camera would have taken care of that. Now the reason I am saying this, is you have 1 red and 1 brownish, and the red is winning in this shot, so some soft flakey pinks would have rounded this shot off nicely.

I for one am now hungry after looking at your shot, which is a compliment as you have evoked a sense in me.

Well done

I'm sure it tastes better than it looks. Reasons for a lowish score: white balance seems off, composition could be better though I do like the past mountain in the foreground and the salmon island behind. I'm not sure where you want my focus to land. In a composition like this where my eye is led to the pasta, then the salmon, then right off the page, most people won't come back for a closer looks and will simply click "next" when their interest is lead out of the frame. Try to lead me in next time.

you know this is totally picky...but I think this would have presented better if it were on a white dish..don't know why but for whatever reason that is what I associate pasta with...white dishes...(I know I'm weird) otherwise a good shot...looks yummy
