Camera: Canon EOS-40D
Lens: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro
Location: Wildlife Heritage Foundation, Kent

Aperture: f/2.8
ISO: 200

Date Uploaded: Aug 11, 2009

This was taken at the Wildlife Heritage Foundation in Kent. This is an Amur Leopards, this is one of two cubs that were born at the centre October 2008 and are important births as there are only 35 or so Amur leopards left in the wild. The whf have the 2 parents and another male 3 Amur Leopard.

Taken as the sun was setting, converted from RAW upping exposure, blacks, clarity and sharpness slightly. Curves, levels and resize, noise ninja and border.

The band were originally "Deaf Leopard" but that was later changed to "Def Leppard" to distinguish them from punk bands, as including an animal in the band name was popular in the punk community in Britain at the time. It has also been suggested that the intentional mis-spelling was partly a homage to "Led Zeppelin."

** Hello from the Critique Club **

Fantastic capture, certainly one deserving of its rank.

Composition
The leopard is isolated well from the surroundings, which helps to focus the eye to the subject, distinctly. What more, is that there is a subtle foreground element, the foliage, which helps to add depth and environment to the cub. I think some may see that as a distraction, especially if the image is examined quickly. But after studying the photo, it is a key element in this capture. I like the direction the cub is pointing, from left to right because it is in line with how the eye scans a photo.

Technical
At f/2.8 and 100mm you don't have too much DOF to work with. Very nice job, especially for a non IS lens! The focus is sharp and the lighting is right on, no doubt brought on by the time of day.

Again, an excellent shot!

How do I know this Leopard is deaf? I don't see a hearing aid. You should have put a hearing aid on him.
