Thanks for all the great comments.
Tried and outside the box entry which was well accepted and appreciated by many.
Unfortunately the stalwarts who believe that geology only consists of out-crops of rocks (don't get me wrong there are some fantastic shots here) voted the other way.
Starting to think originality is a punt you take on this site while the norm is the way to go to get an accepted, higher voted shot.
Better go find myself a sunset or flower or bug or water drop or.............. ;-)

Well, I really liked this one. It is both complicated and pleasing. I love the colors and the way it draws you in.

A different but well thought of image for the challenge, that has also been well executed. I probably would have cropped the upper inch, which just has the wood beam, and left the next wood beam and the pillars to naturally frame the image, thereby avoiding the large brown area at the top of the image.

Well, I'll at least count the pebbles part of it as geology!

This looks a bit like topaz, or photomatix. When I look at this photo, I mainly look at the pier, which doesnt relate to geology. Only after reading the title to I spend any time looking at the pebbles.

i am not being mean at all when i say this, but this image hurts my eyes. Its intersting to look at, but I suppose the oversaturation makes it psychedelic.
