 Wasn't really planning on having an entry for this challenge, but I'm a glutton for punishment, I suppose. I took a few shots of this overpass project when I got to work this morning. I didn't think any of them would really work well, but when I started editing this one, it grew on me quickly.

What I like about it:
-The composition leads my eye nicely to the two people in the lower left.
-The incomplete overpass structure frames them and provides the context of the challenge.
-The blurred car in the background gives a feel for the location on the side of a busy freeway, but being dark, does not distract from the main elements.
-Human interest. Something is going on between the people in this scene.
-The subjects are sharp, with some loss of crispness as the image moves to the background. I like the sense of dimension this aspect provides.
-I like the sense of scale of the people to the structure behind them.
-I'm not a big fan of square crops, but will use them when appropriate. It really was what worked for this one.

Pre-challenge notes:
Not expecting this to be a killer entry by any means. There are too many aspects of it that will be perceived as flaws, and it does not have a huge amount of the legendary "wow-factor". I anticipate starting off in the 4's and hopefully making it comfortably into the 5's.

The more I look at it, the more I think I am in for a lowball score. Not enough wow factor and too many things that will be perceived as flaws. I might be tempted to withdraw it, but now I have to see if I am right. It's like slowing down to look at an accident.

I anticipate some critiques being:
-Slightly overexposed detail on the bridge. (I agree and it could have been easily dealt with if this were advanced editing.)
-Don't like the crop/composition
-The blurred car


Post-challenge notes:
Scored about as hoped for. I knew this was a little out of the box for me and would not have the broad appeal needed for a higher average. It did well to come in where it did.

The cement support has brighter tones than the workers, and thus draws the eye directly to it. Since it's not the main subject, nor very interesting, this takes away from the essence of the image. Perhaps a tighter crop would have been better.

A tad bit grainy to me (or my monitor anyway) but still very nice and the grain, intentional or not, works well with the photo.

Two things that make this more interesting than at first glance: the car appearing that it could be driving off the edge in a second because the bridge looks unfinished and the guy's trousers seeming attached to the line that runs along the column at bottom
