I'm often shooting handheld in low light & I'm motivated by the light more than a chance to get a perfectly sharp shot. Appologies in advance. I'm interested in your very first reaction to this shot from May 2008.

This is great! Love the in-your-face comp and the drastic contrast of red vs black. Very nice.

I love the rich red and all the darkness. It is certainly sharp enough for my tastes. Really beautiful!

I just adore red and black. Each little crevice is like a hiding spot. :~)

Now you see I'm different to Karen (in more than just the obvious ways) I think I would have liked to see the inside of the rose lighter and showing more detail.

Classic combination of red and black though, and nice details on the petals.

Oh this is nice. Not just a rose on a black background, but the blackness inside the rose looks great. I like the rich red colour too.
