Thanks! If I remember correctly there were no blooms decent that were low and this was about 6' high so it was at my limit to reach and even get it close!

It's a lovely photo. I like the deep red color inside. Perhaps you should have avoided the very white parts, probably easier said than done.

I sort of like the shallow DOF because it puts attention on the center of the flower.

just noticed your comment ..
i'd be putting your comment in the photographer's comments coz that way ppl are more likely to notice .. :):)
but the dof seems to work .. funny, but i'd be going a bit more shallow so the background was less focused .. often makes the subject stand out more .. just a different take .. :)

gorgeous flower .. i really love the shadows/lighting and the little bits of pollen in the centre ... looks like an invitation to bees .. in flower/bee talk .. !! .. beautiful colours too .. :)

I should have had a greater DOF, is that very disconcerting to everyone?? Just wondering.
