The pooping pig candy dispenser. It is also available as a penguin and a reindeer:

The head swivels open and you fill the body with brown jellybeans. To dispense, push down on the rear and it actuates the pooping/dispensing mechanism. I bought a handful of these when I ran across them at a clearance store for $2 each. The kids love them, especially the ones that are still in the potty humor stage. (Which lasts a few years!)

I'm pleased with how this came out. It ended up very close to what I had visualized. I tilted the pig's head a little, so that he appeared to be glancing at his product. I love the look on it's face.

I think I am improving my lighting. I had the pig in a light tent, with a crumpled emergency blanket outside to the right as a reflector. 430EX flash on the camera, pointed to the right, at the reflector.

Pre-challenge notes:
Maybe a high 5? Depends on how the humor strikes people, I suppose. Lately, I've been getting good at submitting sharp, well exposed images that bomb, so nothing surprises me. All I know is I can't accurately predict my own score.

Anticipated critiques:
-Depth of field will be criticized as too shallow. I think the only thing that may fix this for me is a real macro lens, or shooting these closeups with my small sensor Powershot S5.

Post-challenge notes:
I'm a bit dissapointed in where this ended up. However, I see a lot of high votes and an especially high commenter's average, which tells me that my entry was very good and had strong appeal for a lot of people. What held it down appears to be a lot of 4's from people who declined to leave feedback. Lacking feedback from the low voters, I am left to assume this was due to my choice of subject and sense of humor.

Thanks for all the feedback. It seems that many did not understand what was unusual about the object. I guess I should have used a title that simply described that it as a "Pooping pig candy dispenser", but I hate using deadpan titles like that.

This made me laugh (I love that face!) and I gave it a 6. I think I didn't give it a higher score because it didn't seem all that unusual to me - but definitely funny! I think the composition was fine for this.

Steve - I didn't vote this challenge and honestly hadn't even looked thru the entries...

At first glance this photo made me smile - it's infectious I guess. :-P

Regarding the pig being a candy dispenser? I had no idea and thought it was a piggy bank. The "poop" in the background looks too large and round IMO to simulate the real thing, and may have more impact a bit closer to the pig (but then you'd throw the balance off a little I suppose).

In the end, too much thinking required for some to grasp the concept in the hurry thru and vote mentality.

All JMO of course. :-)

I really like the humour and would have found it hard to give this shot less than 5 simply for the smile.

Technically I think the pink cast might have cost you some points, I think possibly desaturating it some might have helped with this.

I think most of the commenters knew what this was, and scored highly. For many others, it might have been an inside-joke of sorts: if they didn't recognize it as a humorous candy dispenser, then the "unique object" is a knick-knack and a piece of poo... for which a 5 is a reasonably good score.

I actually liked the shot, but I didn't know about the pooping part, so I couldn't figure out what the brown blob was, and it distracted from the photo. I gave it a 6. If you would have simply named it pooping pig candy dispenser, it probably would have gotten a 7 or 8 (i really liked the pig, but like I said, the OOF brown blob didn't add much when you didn't know what it was)

All I can guess is that too many didn't know what was unusual about it? *shrug* I like it.
(I have the reindeer) :)

Nope, DOF is not too shallow. I thought this worked very well, both as a photograph on its own and for the challenge. Quite a smile-generating picture in my opinion. The low voters are probably of the mind that "toys" aren't good for challenges. Or they all have this particular toy and therefore don't find it a bit unusual. Sorry I can't be of help on this one.

My dad has the pooping reindeer. He laughs every time. Apparently, potty humor stage lasts for more than a couple of years. :)

It's a well done shot. Sometimes the voters don't get it right... but sometimes they do! :)

I'm sorry, but this just cracks me up, lol! Your subtle dof works very well to draw the attention to the pigs face and not the candy. I like the lighting you used. Side light is nice on this. This is advanced editing, so I'm going to bring up your sensor dust spots!!!!! :0 Should have cloned those babies out! :) I think this is a cute and creative shot!

Edited for poor typing...ugh!

We have a reindeer one. I think I'm the only person who ate the candy. This one brought a smile to my face. Nice.
