These are interesting plants, easily misidentified as a thistle, or/also rough blazing star (Liatris aspera)
I usually don't see very many until mid/late summer.

I think it's Black Knapweed. I'm surprised that a lot of the wildflowers you post are the same ones we have here in Newfoundland. But you're about a month ahead of us in blooming. |
