This was inspired by the cover to the first season of Secret Diary of a Call Girl. I am very happy with how it turned out! The martini glass is a giant foot tall martini glass I got from a friend and I had her pose on a black box. We adjusted the pose while referencing the glass to get the angles working. I then photographed the glass under the same lighting conditions to make the reflections as realistic as possible. Then I just photoshopped forever and ever.
Beautiful image, Claire. At the risk of nitpicking, the glass seems to tilt to the right a bit, so you might increase the black space around the subject and rotate the image a tad to the left (if you can do so without losing clarity), then recrop.
wow, I bet the photoshopping around the rim of the glass took forever. excellent work
Thanks! It really didn't take much time at all. I set the entire glass layer to "lighten" which left only the highlights. It was missing the light shadow on the rim that gives it more mass so instead of meticulously using the magnetic lasso or brush tool I set the selection tool to the circle with a feather of 2 pixels and made a big selection circle whose edge matched the top rim of the glass. Then I made another circle selection pressing the option key (mac) or whatever key makes the selection negative so that it takes away from your selection. I lined its edge to the bottom rim of the glass and had a perfectly smooth curved selection of the rim of the glass without spending hours.
Long winded explanation that probably doesn't make a huge amount of sense but I try :-D
You are the post processing queen! Like good Hollywood special effects, I don't see the effect, just the image - like Gary Sinise's legs in Forrest Gump. I love looking at your work, it always makes me realize what a complete amateur / novice I am! Very healthy perspective to maintain.
