Absolutely enormous wind-powered generators on Altamont Pass, California. Taken from Altamont Pass Road.

Levels, contrast, etc., then desaturated, contrast again, and after much debate I cloned out a power pole, which was nice to illustrate the sheer size of these windmills, but it also kind of broke up the lines in the photo so I removed it.

This is my first challenge entry in at least a year and a half.

*****************

WOW! A ribbon! I never in a million years expected this. I got home from my night class and went, oh yeah! That challenge got over. I should see how my score ended up. First thing I saw was the red request for proof in the left-hand corner and I simply could not believe it. THANK YOU everyone for the nice comments (and the helpful comments, and the nice helpful comments)! Also thank you to my husband who patiently insisted that I stop WHENEVER I WANTED on our drive to stop to take pictures, and my kids who went along gamely and cheerfully with his insistence. Those of us with non-photographically-inclined families know what a gift that is. :)

This is a meaningful image to me not necessarily because of the Green theme but because ever since I was a little girl I've been in awe of these giant wind-harnessing machines, and I've always wanted to take a back road across the pass so I could stop and just gape at them. But I never did, until this one family drive.

This one might have to go on my wall. :)

What a great shot of these things - and HUGE congrats on the ribbon!! And I'm betting your family actually quite enjoys your little side trips and stops, probably more than you realize.

You know, I feel the same way about the generators, and honestly did exactly the same thing as you: never went until I went to go try to get a photo. Unfortunately, the weather was atrocious and the visibility was so low that I couldn't even view the top of the generator, just the blades swinging into and out of the low level fog. Anyway, the point of all this is to say that I like your photo and I can definitely relate :)

The bright patch of sky competes a little bit with your giants. Overall, it is a very pleasing composition. The rolling hills and fences could maybe be a touch brighter to bring out some more detail, but on the other hand, the range of tones they add to the image is beneficial. I really like the B/W conversion. I'd like to see the color version, too.

Score 8: Great composition, with the turbines so far to the right of the frame. Great detail in shadows and light of the hills and in the sky. Loving the soft black and white presentation.

Nice shot! I just think it would be better with some more contrast (mainly on the clouds...)

Good picture, with a theme of green it would have worked better with some color.

I really like this, it's only spoiled slightly by the couple of dust spots

One of the few B&W photos, I think this is a very strong and simple shot. Not much to say other than I love the capture and I think its nicely framed. Well done!
