Set up on the side of the Botanical Gardens lake waiting for the egrets to come down for the afternoon feed that is normally done by the public about 2pm on the opposite side, after waiting for most of the feeding to finish threw out some bread hoping to entice them to my side, and shoot as they came across, using the camera hand held for easier movement and control following the birds, a lot didn't have background that suited the style, but was able to get this shot being about 18ft from the subject as it landed.
Opened raw file in CS3, and made minor adjustments.
Thank you for the positive comments during & post voting.
I will be honest and say I am disappointed in the final score for this photo, and wonder as to why on the last day of voting it was punished so badly after being as high as 6.8 in early voting.

This is really great, Brian! Mine took a serious nosedive on the last day too! I even made a comment about that in the scoring thread. It seems that every single time I have a high scoring photo, it nosedives on the last day -- and I'm noticing alot of other people saying the same thing. Makes you wonder, doesn't it! My guess is your one 2 and your three 3's were doled out on the last day. Sorry -- it deserves to be much higher than it finished!
what a tack sharp image of the bird in flight. excellent details. nice work.
a minor suggestion: a little negative space on the right side could enhance the beauty of this shot.
Audubon perfect, this is an amazing image richly detailed, properly framed and composed with nothing out of place and technically perfect. It has a great deal of artistic impact and is as stunningly beautiful the third or fourth viewing as it was on the first. A complete artistic and technical success demonstrating motion, grace, and beauty. Well done.
