Not a personal nightmare of mine, but it immediately popped into my head when I saw the challenge. I think both men and women should be able to relate to this shot. For any women who go walking or jogging near dark, I'm pretty sure this is a scenario that has crossed their mind. And I think both husbands and boyfriends(or any family member for that matter) hope this never happens to their wife/girlfriend/sister/daughter as well.

I haven't done much in the way of advanced challenges for a while, so I spent a little more time tweaking this one. I used the Nik midnight, tonal contrast, and vignette filters with quite a bit of masking, dodging and burning and some other minor adjustments.

This was shot about 30 minutes before sunset and I was hoping for minimal shadows crossing the trail. (I scoped the location out earlier in the day) I did bring down the color balance by around 1500K to get the scene nearer the timeframe I was looking for. The Nik midnight filter did the rest. That's a perfect filter for this type of shot and it allowed me to really go to town on the knife-wielding perps face - better than using burn.

Oh, and the hooded raincoat? A $7.50 prop from a local secondhand store. :-)

TOP TEN, Josh! ! ! Totally cool... But I still hate the image... since I'm a female walker and this is so well done. :)

great editing on the man, but with the walking girl and background could have had a more sinister air as well. anyways, its still a well executed and nightmare-worthy photo:)

I really like the set up on this picture - darkness and focusing add to the feel.

A good composition which is a very effective presentation of a nightmarish subject.

Good image depicting a nightmare. Good that you kept the bad guy in the shadows and that part of the composition darker; while the victim is in the light and in color. The concept works well to depict a nightmare. But here's a thought, since the bad guy is in focus, does that mean the person having the nightmare is afraid of being the bad guy??? That's my read. If the victim was in focus and the bad guy out of focus, I would interpret that as the victim having the nightmare... Just a thought... Either way, well done image.

Very disturbing and sure to be in there with a shout of a ribbon at the end. Technically very strong t, I love the light the nasty man is bathed in. Well done.
