Foolishly only gave myself 90 minutes to do this before the deadline, from idea to submission. Could've been more polished and better thought out, but it took forever to get even this shot since I had to use the remote + 2sec timer... you'd think I'd get the hang of when to jump to time it right but I have dozens of outtakes!

Tried a few yoga-type poses as well which turned out well, but I don't do yoga and I liked the energy/joy in this one.

I agree it's too close to the wall; unfortunately that's the only blank wall in my apartment (had to move a couch to get to it!) and the camera was as far back against the opposite wall as possible.

And in hindsight, given the nature of the photo (stock, looking straight at the camera, etc.), cropping in the center would've been better, as some of you suggested.

Thanks to all for the comments!

Nice sharp capture of your moving subject(unless she's got a bolt in her back holding her in place. I don't know if having her off center makes for as nice a picture in this case.

Good picture but I think I would like it more if the subject was more centered and not smiling.

hmm... so close to the wall the swing-ropes cannot function properly ;-)

heh heh... I know she's too close to the wall to actually be jumping rope.

Really great image and a beautiful girl. I would have preferred it without the shadow on the wall though and the mat being offset to the left is a bit distracting. Worthy of a 7 from me.

This image has a lot of potential. I'd like to see her further away from the wall so that her shadow disappears (or is neglible). Next I'd like to see a tighter crop and not be able to see the mat.
The pose is terrific and you've captured the moment perfectly. The exposure is bang on.

Nice work

Like the action and the reaction on the face.

I like the idea but I think it could be improved in a number of ways. Firstly, move further away from the wall, this would decrease the shadow cast on the wall and make the shot more believable. As it is this shot seems a little weird because we are supposed to be under the impression that the girl is skipping, and that at the moment the shot was taken the rope is underneath the girl, however because she is so close to the wall this is clearly impossible as the rope can't travel behind her. This combined with the fact that she is staring straight at the camera and smiling make it seem very very posed. I also find the mat and floor a little distracting - obviously not everyone has a studio in their house, but I think a well ironed sheet lit brightly as a background would have helped remove the distracting features in this shot, making it more suitable for stock. I think you've got the right idea with the lighting, subject and style though, it just needs a bit of refining to make it great!

She's jumping rope awfully close to that wall ;) I think the pose is great, but it's too obvious that she's not actually jumping rope.

Communicates a sense of movement in a very static way - a difficult composition accomplished with skill. A little more light to build a clearer and sharper shadow would only have enhanced an already excellant effort. Well done.

A good action shot which would work well as a stock image if the background were more appealing.
