Michael at Pure had these last week. I asked what it was and he said, "Another Protea". Shot some other subjects on a little walk today, very windy so they were not as sharp as I liked. I shot further in studio later and this was my favorite of the days shooting.

Post: Camera Raw adjustments in PSElements 6.0. Layer adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue saturation. Adjust sharpness. Crop. Resize. USM.
Upon viewing here I decided to go with a square crop. Re-opened the original edited version and crop 4x. Resize. USM.

Maybe adjusting the white balance would help this out for me at least. The green cast isn't very pleasing. Definitely textured though.

Green is the hardest digital color to control. With excellant tone control and beautiful detail, this should be a top contender for a ribbon. Little minor technical flaws do not detract from the image's overall impact and the impression of texture. Well done.

Not voting because I'm in the challenge with you.
I really like this. The tiny filaments projecting from the bud are great, and the way the larger "bristles" are all curling away from the center is very neat.
