I have to thank my good friend Max Quigley again, who has become my patient assistant.Max puts up with my lack of knowledge and my ideas on trying to get something to work. This was lit with a 580 EXII, on a monopod, with a Gary Fong lightsphere that I covered with black electrical tape so the light wouldn't spread out. So basically a spotlight with the dome on.

The model is Amanda.

Here are some compilations from the same day.

Awesome shot. I am glad to know that my current equipment is capable of a shot like this. Now all I need is the skill. Well done.

Dude, seriously. I wanna be like you when I grow up. That is such an awesome use of one light, that I'm flabbergasted.

Fantastic shot! Could you elaborate a little on the lighting please? ie: where was the 580 positioned and how high. I'm keen to learn more about strobes for lighting.

It helps to have a great model and location too ;)

I have always liked your photography, ever since I was introduced to it during the olympics last year, but I have to say that recently, your portrait work has jumped to a new level... this stuff is amazing. Love this photo. When will you be holding workshops???

Holy crap would you LOOK at the LIGHTING, it's fantastic. How did you do it? The photo is awesome but I said it before and I'll say it again, the LIGHTING WOW!!!!! OH and the title.... how do you do it, how do you do it??

No vote from me my friend but if I had the chance it would score an 11 just for the LIGHTING :)

All the best to you and yours.

MAX!

I really like the dark deep reds on the booth and in her hair. I like the high contrast.

A solid image that is crisp, sharp and properly framed and composed - a technical success in every way. From an artistic standpoint, it has significant impact being richly colored with excellant detail. This image would have worked as a black and white as well. A perfect demonstration of the power of properly controlled light and focus. A top ten image and a very strong contender for a ribbon. Well done.

Lighting on this is superb. It sets the tone for the rest of the image wonderfully. And with you title, it makes me wonder about the back story. Well done.

She almost looks as though she's floating at first. Nice use of location, light, and a very intriguing and pretty model!

This looks waaaaay overprocessed to me. It doesn't look like a photo... I am afraid I can't score it to high as such. Sorry!
