Challenge: Unusual Viewpoint (Advanced Editing II)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G5
Location: In my yard
Date: May 19, 2004
Aperture: F/3
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/400 sec
Galleries: Nature, Macro
Date Uploaded: May 19, 2004

I was wandering around the yard, trying to figure out what constituted an unusual view, when I came across this ladybug stuck in a spiderweb. When I first arrived, it was very well caught... I managed a total of three (handheld) photos before it fell. One was actually as it was clinging to the last bit of web, a split second before it went down.. I will post the rest after the challenge.

Anyway, I thought this was a very interesting and rather unusual POV. You don't often see bugs from underneath, especially when the photo is taken from above! These are also my very first ever bug photos, and I'm pleased with how they turned out :) I'm expecting a lot of people to not see how it meets the challenge, though. To be honest, "unusual viewpoint" is rather vague and I wasn't sure what it meant. It seems pretty subjective to me.

Editing: A little resizing and a lot of cropping, some light Neat Image to clean noise up, and then some sharpening and curve adjustments.

Beautiful shot (except the fact that the insect is dead). This is bound to score very highly. (*Sigh* I wish I could get closeups that sharp...)

I am amazed by this shot. The DOF is absolutely fantastic!

Ususual viewpoint - yes. Interesting - yes. Make it better by: a) Not centering the main subject b) Remove that bright and distracting white area on the left edge.

Excellent, excellent image. Great technical quality and focus. You might try cropping the ladybug according to the rule of thirds (Perhaps to the lower right quadrant) to see what that would look like. Might make this already terrific image even better.

Great photo. Fantastic detail. Maybe some cropping or color manipulation to de-emphasize the bright area to the left may have improved it. But overall very nice work.

I like how you have used the DOF to isolate your subject and diagonally dividing the image also helps the overall composition.

Excellent! Now would this be a rare South American abseiling Ladybird? ;-)
