This is not the edit I wanted to do. It isn't even the crop I wanted to do. But I ran out of time and decided not to stress about it. I figure it's kind of fitting, given the way I have felt about a lot of my entries.. that they don't seem to be the way they "should" be. Either they don't fit DPC very well or they don't measure up to what I see in my head.. things like that.

This is part of a photoshoot I did a little while back.. probably the best I've ever done. And I feel that the way that the photoshoot happened is really a testament to things being possible. I didn't have a studio or any fancy location - I'm sitting in my bathroom in front of a window. No awesome lighting setup - just sunlight behind me and a bit of bathroom lighting in front. I didn't use a tripod to take this photo of myself - I took it hand-held. This isn't even face paint on my face - just metallic marker, used in a fit of what-I-have-on-hand inspiration.

I'm not a professional photographer. I don't have a lot of equipment. Having nice equipment is, of course, nice. But magic can happen regardless. My bit of rainbow magic has not happened before or since, but as I hold it dear to my heart, I know that I will see it one day again.

Happy 1000th, DPC. Thanks for the journey.

I didn't get to this in voting but I do like the way that you did this. Never walk to the same drum as others find your own path it will be the best.

Cool photo, I like the composition a lot and the background looks great, nice DOF. Cool angle for the shot.

I feel that a full face shot without the distracting background would have had much more impact.

I like the pose and downward gaze, I like the composition. Lighting seems a bit harsh though, taking away from the softness that I think you were trying to portray.

those trees in the background are so distracting. i like your crop and all that, but the bright sunlight off the paint isnt really helping the photo. ive had this problem with face paint before, one of my top 5 photos has major paint glare, but i think i might suggest taking such a photo in indoor light next time so you have more control.

if she was looking at the camera, this woudl be a very strong image, but i realize it would ruin the ability to see the makeup which is the point here, still a nice image

Very interesting! I like it very much. I think I would have liked an all black background better, however. The colors in the paint are so fascinating, it makes the green in the background distracting--it pulls my eye away from the interesting part.

A little too overexposed for my tastes. The composition is daring though.

this could be very great if she looks at the camera from that angle - 6

Her shoulder is too bright for my taste. It takes your attention away from all the other lovely details.

Nice composition. I think I'd like the sholder burned in a little though so that the face is the part of the photo that pops.

your background isn't in bokeh enough...it distracts from your subject

Nice make-up macro, strong colors and interesting shapes. Even the bold shapes created by her shoulder and the background. Just wondering about the discoloration on her skin below the purple smudge.

Nice detail and abstract. A different perspective on a portrait which is interesting.

interesting make up, but the angle does not work for me, there is too much shoulder which takes away from the face, and the background is a little messy and distracting
