This was from a portrait workshop a few weeks ago. I really should have adjusted the lighting more so I didn't have to use ISO 1000 but we had limited time and there were 8 of us.

Backlit only, in retrospect I guess there should have been some light from the front as well. It was the ring of light that I was going for.

pp convert from raw upping exposure as it was way under exposed. tried a gausian blur layer @3.5% and a layer mask to only smooth the skin ... I think its too much but with ISO 1000 and increasing the exposure the shot was in trouble to start with!

The eyes are gorgeous! You know you could actually add some light to her face with a few photoshop filters or change the lighting in portrait professional. This is still very lovely though!

Even with the limitations you describe you have acheived a pretty nice portrait. The details are clear and her eyes are beautifully focused. I love the backlighting through her hair.

Looks like you accomplished what you were going for with the backlighting. Nice focus on her eyes.

was it rim lighting you are after here or high key- any case tough to deal with. I agree, more light to the front or exposure to the front would make this more appealing. never the less an attempt is worth all.
