This is my father. He really is a wonderful, wise, weathered, and worn, old gentleman.

but mischievous and humorous, with sparklng shining eyes and a warmth that you captured here, using your skills to show us this about him, rather than fabricate it with with technique and lighting. Portraiture has the added obstacle that the person is a stranger: many portraits are technically perfect, but no real connection is made. This portrait reveals and presents charisma, chemistry, appeal. I want to know what he is thinking at this moment, what he would say if he could suddenly start speaking right from this image.

You already know that the technicals here are perfect, from the conversion, lighting, tones, dof--clear expertise is evident here.

This is an outstanding portrait...you seem to have caught a bit of his persona here!

Ooh... I love it! Beautiful lighting. Great character in the face. I'm hoping this is your father and we could include it in a father series (read about the idea on the image below)

I haven't figured out how we'll pull the series together on the site but I'd love to get more people to contribute. (If it isn't your father, it's still a great shot. One of my favorites in the challenge.)

He may be withered and worn, but you've managed to capture an expression of mischief and a sparkle in his eye! Well done!

Break the rule about not shooting portraits straight into squared shoulders and end up with a wonderfully direct character study. Enjoyable range of tones in this B&W conversion. Hope you reveal more about your subject.

It's a lovely portrait with sublime lighting. And he looks like a very nice gentleman, which is actually a tribute to both of you.
