 The title just occurred to me as an after thought. there are no barbarians, but we want them, need them, to exist. Thats what I had gotten out of the poem.

Just as many commenters believed, this is not what it seems. It was after a night of drinking and hanging out with the crowd of businessmen, that one of them passed out as we were leaving the izakaya.
I was inspired for the editing by some old photos of assassinated mafiosos and politicians in Sicilian newspapers. like this.

I did not know Cavafy. In all likelihood, he don't know me either.

this gruesome image brings to mind the reporting style of Weegee and his speed graphic blast of flash technique for numerous witnessing of unthinkable accidents and shootings.

I also immediately twigged on Cavafy. How the heck many of us are there in DPC that even know his name? I'm impressed that 2 of the previous 4 commenters are obviously familiar with his work.

Excellent example of title and image working together in a necessary synergy. Powerful image, more than a little disturbing. Well done.

And is this "what shall become of us without any barbarians"? - Cavafy came to mind immediately. Thought this was Iraklis's, a kind of final horrible despair, as the "Senators sit and pass no laws."

The processing adds to the severity. Is your title a reference to the Cavafy poem? (Posthumous, have you read his work at all? I think it is fantastic, and not just because he's Greek : )

Which in turn makes us the barbarians. We will be our ultimate demise... at least that's what I got from the poem.

Panos, you are a nut lol. I did NOT know how to comment on this. At first I thought it was going to be a political statement showing a dead guy. But I realized he wasn't dead but I was sure he was not posing. You did a good job with the processing tho because it does indeed look like a photo of a murder from the past. So when are you putting together your book of Japanese cultural lifestyle? lol This goes beyond ones you have posted here so I can only begin to imagine what you are keeping on your computer!
