I finally found a reason to use those cinnamon sticks I got on sale after Christmas. The apple and leaves are fake. I got them as Thanksgiving decorations last year.

I have been wanting to do some still life pictures and have been doing research on painting with light. Its been a lot of fun to do. This was done in my kitchen on a small table with black poster board taped to the wall behind it. I just used my husbands little flashlight to paint it.

NO WAY! hahaha. I never expected this. I had so many that I could have entered and one was in and I pulled it because I liked this one more. It doesnt always work out like this tho! Thank you all so much for your comments and votes. I really am so happy!

To me it seems that it is more of contest of who can photoshop better than the photographic skills a person has. And as usual I did not vote this time. But your photo is probably one of the nicest I have seen at DP Challenge. The first thing that strikes me is the warmth that your photo exhibits. The composition is perfect and it's in focus. I do not know how much processing was involved but it looks it was kept to a minimum. Excellent job, congratulations. The only negative that I could say about your photo is that it did not receive the blue ribbon. Good job.

WOW. Thank you so much! That is a big compliment to me when you see all of the talent here.

This is my original. The only thing done to put it here was rotated and resized.

The editing steps werent much:

rotated left

crop

sharpen

brightness/contrast

border

resize

I did buy over 10 lbs of apples first tho to do other pictures like the ones of my out takes. hahaha. So I didnt get away without spending some money but its a good thing we like apples around here. Just so happened the coloring of the fake apple worked better. :=)

Thanks every body!!

Aw, shucks! - I could have eaten this apple - and now you tell me it's not real!!
Thats so impressive I am embarrassed! - a very top result - I think it should have got further - it could be used in an apple advert!

Congrats!

My favorite of the ribbons, has a gentle, warm, old world feel to it that pulls me in and reminds me of pleasant smells and the warmth of a freshly baked pie. My only gripe is the semi-hot spot on the apple, but c'est la vie as they say.

You know, at first glance I gave this a mediocre score. Then I went back and realized the light here is lovely. 9. Real leaves would have made this perfect :)

I really like the softness of the light in this image. It looks like an AJHopp - I wonder if it is?

The more I look at this, the more I notice the care that has been taken with the set-up and composition. Great stuff.
