This week, one of my colleagues retired after twenty years in the Air Force, bringing his military career to an end. This is part of the flag folding ceremony performed by an Honor Guard, that took place during the retirement ceremony.

Light was horrible, background atrocious, and I'm very aware this is a terrible picture as far as technicals. But I do like it. Why would I enter such a thing? Hopefully it'll mean something to one or two folks. But mostly because it's part of the chronicles - our personal histories are told through our challenge entries in a way, don't you think?

And by the way, my retirement ceremony will be later this year. :-)

the standing flag, the folded flag. the humble moment. I underestimated this shot.

Well. . .I am one who would have probably given this a 9 or 10. I don't think the light is horrible at all -- and it is photojournalism, so the background isn't supposed to be all studio-esque. And what it represents moves me greatly. The honor of being paid tribute for such a noble career is something very touching. I hope someone gets a picture so moving of your retirement ceremony.

I love how you have barely humanized it with only part of the faces. To me, that gives more attention to what it represents than just being a "people snapshot".

I love it.

You really made a statement, and I like the blur of the hands. Time really does pass us by. Congratulations on your impending retirement, btw. What will you do then? :)

As the granddaughter of an army colonel, I this picture indeed represents the challenge. Very poignant. God bless.

i like it very much, the depth of field seems a little to soft for me (either that or he was moving too much...)
