A Balance of Subject, Horizon, Depth, and Tone in the Zone System.

Post Challenge: to those concerned...I suppose I could have straightened the tree...or the horizon...lol...or actually adjusted the minor distortion...between the tree and the horizon...but.. an adjustment between the 2 along with shooting downhill and balancing the ground depth.. with the sky depth...all of it was a delicate balance...as for the softness of the clouds..I was totally focused (lol)..on the tonal quality of Ansel Adams..and it was so cold I didn't check my f-stop as I was taking the shot...hense not an f/8...and not the super sharp sky....live and learn..lol

I love this picture! Great subject for this challenge (and for the single tree challenge)! 9

I think I would have preferred to see a straighter horizon...

This is nice, but straighten the horizon and you have an even better shot.

Use your burn tool to bring out the contrast in the clouds. The tree is PERFECT, as well as the field and trees in the back. Pretty nice. The clouds need work tho. Last, you should have either leveled the tree or the horizon. Both are NOT level!

This is a lovely image, very inviting. I love the keyline on this one, too. However, the softness of the sky is very offputting to me in the context of the rest of the image, and especially in the context of an AA challenge, because he worked hard to make his clouds crisp. Even the landscape itself is softening in the BG, you have a surprisingly limited DOF. Ansel, on the other hand, was known for the deep clarity of his images, he used very small apertures and the tilts on his view camera to attain maximum usable DOF.

The rendering of the tones, on the other hand, is absolutely first rate, and overall it's a very, very pleasing image. It's just that, for THIS challenge, I'd prefer to see it crisper in the depths and in the sky.

Great quality of light here-- Good foreground form and I can see for miles.

Of all the images this one is most deffenatly done in the Ansel style, maybe the tree should be a little lighter but still looks god.

Really nice flat landscape, which is hard to make aesthetically pleasing, but isn't the horizon way off? Lopsided rather than Balanced? Not voting.
