A lame joke I suppose, but I thought it might be fun to exaggerate the thick black top/bottom border for this Ansel Adams nature shot, just for fun.
A DPC forum ran a month ago discussing this issue at some length. Check out "Time to get rid of borders?" in the Forums. I shot this through a slit in a piece of cardboard. Greyscale, levels, brightness/contrast, sharpened it a bit. My perhaps not so subtle but quiet way of protesting the new border styles increasingly found on DPC, including quite a rash of them in the ribbon circles. So, I guess I ought to be expecting to ribbon with this entry. May even add to my growing ribbon (brown) collection. Tee hee :)

Congrats. This is even better than my ridiculous border in the recent bokeh challenge. Mine wasn't bad enough for the brown however. I'll have to try harder next time. Do you think a single pixel in a field of black would be a wide enough border?

I'm impressed that you took the effort to shoot through a piece of cardboard rather than adding the border in post.

ETA: and it's not even straight. lol

Congrats on the brown! Btw, I was the one who started that particular borders thread in the forums, but I retreated after being mocked for attempting to limit creativity. Your form of protest is hopefully more effective (though I fear not).

Anyhow, your entry can take its place alongside another great border-dominated work:

The "letterbox" look can add a cinematic feel to even a random snapshot, but I think you've overdone it a tad. :-p

What do you mean border? You can hardly see a border for the lush forestry. Look, see, there's an eagle sitting in that tree just by the rock. He's about to pounce on that vole sitting by the rainbow with the leprechauns.

You made me laugh :) Thanks.

Presumably you are attempting to win the brown? For that reason I'm not going to give you a 1 as I suspect many will.

Beautiful border, though it tends to cut a bit into the picture space. Gorgeous trees. I like how the bold trunks are near the horizontal rule of thirds lines. Nice high contrast shot. I'd like to help you get the coveted ribbon you're trying for but I'm not voting this challenge.
