A shot of lunch the other day (it was delicious). Used 2 small strobes to illuminate the sandwich. One fired through an umbrella over top and slightly to camera left, another bounced off of ceiling/right wall for fill.

Greetings from the Critique Club

First of all welcome to DPC and congratulations on achieving such a good score for your first challenge.

First of all, I think the composition is good, although as others have mentioned, the fork is a little bit distracting and is probably superfluous. Your choice of DOF works well here too as does the lighting. I am not 100% sold on the wooden table as a background, I think it makes the colours of the actually food look a little bit drab.

The other thing from my perspective, is that I do not really think this image meets the challenge topic. The challenge was to create an image that portrayed the art of cooking and this does not do that in my opinion. I think it is excellent for a stock photo portraying food, but not for cooking. Maybe I am too pedantic, but if I was a magazine editor who was looking to buy a cooking shot, this would certainly not be it. Thus, I think you would have scored much higher in a stock food challenge.

Hopefully this is helpful in some way.

I like that the photo doesn't seem as setup as some of the others. I think you could have come up with a more creative title though.

good set up...if the coffee cup was in focus it would have been better for me...

Nicely done. But the cup is unnecessary and makes this more artistic than shot.

DOF is tremendous :-) Looks great.

The only thing is the OOF grain of the wood is causing an odd effect at the top of the shot behind the plate.

Still 8 from me.

This is a good idea - I think the table color is a bit distracting. With a neutral table I bet the rest of the photo would POP!

The fork seems a bit odd in front of something I would pick up, but otherwise great.

That looks delicious! I think the wood surface everything's sitting on adds a lot to this picture, too. Gives the picture sort of a warm cafe feeling. Very nice.

More a photo of food than of cooking.
