The Image: Having won a blue in the FEAST Challenge, the elusive food photography success was now mine! Thought I would have another go. Went ane bought the food this time, and no, I didn't feed it to the dog! Our daughter Sarah will be eating this. It's BEEF AND BLACKBEAN SAUCE.

Used a 50mm F1.8 Nikon lens to shoot this and hand held it in available light.

The Edit: A lot of subtle massaging on this one using adjustment layers and masks. Cloned out some dust. I adjusted colour, levels, curves, a layer of noise reduction or two, an adjustment for sharpness...just working instintively. I also added a Gaussian Blur adjustment layer and mask for the softer focus in some parts of the image.

I then did a black and white layer which I pulled the levels down on, then added a layer mask to get the slight vignette to finish it all off.

The Prediction: Maybe 6.8??? Is that ambitious for this? Let's see...

Post: yes, my prediction was ambitious, but there are some wonderful photos in the top 10 just above me...well done everyone!

This is Kari Ann, greetings from the Critique Club:

composition: A beautifully presented piece. The plates are all placed very well in the focus points of the picture.

color:Strong and alluring. The deep greens in the bowl and the red place-mat really work amazingly together

contrast:
very good contrast, just enough to set the bowls of food out from the table below, but not too much so they are disjointed

focus: precise focus, I love how much detail can be seen in the food, its amazing

depth of field:
the addition of the blur makes the piece even more interesting, adding that little bit of DOF really adds more emphasis to the food being showcased

lighting:
lighting is very well done, bringing all the main characters into the light

other:
gosh, this was just too yummy- i mean, fun to critique. You should be very proud of such an image, and
great job on such a great finish in the challenge. I can't think of anything for you to do to improve on it.

Well done and much better than the Feast entry. Amazing for me is how it survived all that processing. Oh well maybe some day I'll learn...

Nice job, Enzo! Not only with a beautiful "food photo", but the unique angle makes it a standout. It could be a magazine ad for sure :)

Fantastic combination of colours and form. I love the way the vignetting also draws you to the centre of the image. Looks so tasty!

well composed, the blurred edges are really distracting but the colors and clarity in the middle are lovely
