Went to the zoo on x-mas eve and it was dead. Maybe saw 15 people the whole time we were there. Consequently the animals acted completely different than usual. Some were more curious about us, and some more relaxed. This one falls into the relaxed category.

While I intended to convey how sad it looked, it was really quite content. It is actually napping and soaking up what little sun was available on such a cold day.

Just to the left of the cement it opens in to a big wooded area for them to play on. To the right is a door to the big indoor room they have (and where the other monkeys decided to spend the day).

This takes us somewhere. (That upper left patch of light is crucial).

I hope rino63 doesn't mind if I post a similar picture of his, which works differently but arouses similar ponderings in me. If I had wall space I would like his and yours in proximaty.

Very powerful photograph. I love the subtle toning of this. While it would also worked in a cropped version, that light at the top seems to signify the world beyond that is unattainable, and I like having that there.

I like the lighting and your title is very appropriate. The image is stronger to me with some of the top (including the circle) cropped off.
