 This is the first time I have tried to photograph birds and all I can say is that is very much harder than it looks. They are so jumpy
Ideally I would love to have submitted a fantail coming from New Zealand but they are so quick and my camera has niether the zoom lens needed or the ability so I settled for this I had to try and get this image through some sort of chicken wire fencing and that was difficult coupled with the bad lighting and the background plus a very difficult bird that really didn't want to pose I eventually settled for this one as I think the log adds interest and texture in itself.
I cropped this then I cloned out the block wall using the colour of the wall to take out the block effect and a few minor specks sharpened lightly toned and the brightened added the border and downsized.

watch the iso setting on your camera - it looks like your getting some digital noise on your bakground due to a high iso - i keep mine at 50 since anything higher produces this noise.

The detail is very nice. Good job. Although the nose, just above the beak, seems a bit to soft compared to the rest of the image.

My eye is drawn to the perch more than the bird. I think this is because your focus is a touch off. It may be because of the colors and textures and lines though...

Beautiful bird! My eye seems to want to focus on the log that the bird is sitting on insteed of the bird. Maybe putting the bird more in the pic and less of the log, IMO. Good luck in the challenge!

one of the few borders I have ever seen that helps the shot. strong composition, the curves of the branch seem to echo the head feathers. top notch.

Great composition coupled with super lighting make this image a true winner. The textures in the bark and feathers are great as well - with the small patches of moss/lichen adding some additional impact. Finally the model has a nice look of "curiousity." Well done indeed.

Awww! What a beautiful photograph. I have a cockatiel and he never sits still long enough to take a decent photograph of him! The colours and focus on this are absolutely stunning, and the composition itself is fantastic. Nice job!

The cockatiel is exceptionally well focused and it is a nice pose. The tree, however, seems just a little harsh and "digital". I'd recommend selecting the branch only and apply a little gaussian blur to soften the branch up a little. That would also draw the viewer away from it and toward the main subject more. In any regard this is one of the best images in the challenge.
