Bighorn ram and ewe on MacGregor Mountain on December 18, 2008. Part of a flock of 35 sheep.

[Jan. 2nd, 2009 03:28:59 PM]

Both sexes of this species have horns. The female on the left is the ewe and that's as large as her horns will get. The male is the ram on the right. He is about 9 years old. His horns will continue to curl all of his life (expectancy of maybe 12 years). But, to maintain his peripheral vision, he "brooms" off the tips of the horns so he can see left and right.

This piece is very interesting, Hvae you ever thought about making calendars? Sometimes wildlife photography can com off looking very mediocre, but, not yours, noope. It has an interesting artistic perspective. The Masculinity of the male ram just forces it's way throughout the image. I would really enjoy looking at it while checking my appointments for june.

I can sense the connection between the two animals, almost like they gossiping about something they see off in the distance...
