My original concept for this was to use three ornaments, they're about and inch in size, and the lights. I did not have three matte ornaments with sparkles, only two. The third was glossy and you could see my reflection. That was quickly done away with. I then shot with two. But the ribbons look like pooh. I attempted to adjust them but the one was crooked and I said foo (maybe I should do this as a poem). Anyway, I went to rehearsal and left when facilitators appeared to discussed creative financing for the rest of the season....hmmmm....facilitators always spell trouble so I made a point and left. I came home and used a new ribbon with another matte sparkly ornament and shot just the one which turn out about the best.

Shot with camera on tripod and cable remote. I used the ambient light from the small multicolored ornamental lights and two clamp lamps out front on either side of the ornament.

Happy Holidays!

Post: Camera Raw adjustments in PSElements 6.0. Layer adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation. Adjust sharpness. Small rotation to straighten the ribbon. Three crops: one for the roration, one for aspect ratio and one for composition. Spot edit dust. Resize. USM.

i wish the ornament as the subject were better lit - the light circles overwhelm the shot

cool image. i wish the ornament stuck out a little more, i feel like the lights in the background are more dominate in the image. if the ornament was a bit brighter then it would be a knockout. good luck :)

You probably already have been told this, but you have a lot of what resembles sensor dust on your lights. While they are a pretty effect, the spottiness of them really detracts from the beauty. Also, your main subject (the ornament) gets a little bit lost in the background of black. Some soft light coming from the other side might have helped this (flashlight, perhaps?). The ribbon(?) that the ornament is hanging on is way too colourful for this shot. A pretty hook would have been a better choice. Remember to compliment your main subject, not take away the attention. Check out this thread and this thread. The second has a lovely part about how to find out if you actually have sensor dust. I hope this helps :) Good luck!

Woa! There's a lot of christmas pictures in this challenge! I don't think it's a bad thing, because i really like those circles of lights as background! About your christmas..i think the object could be much brighter and with more focus.
